Basic New Rider Course
“This CLASS is ONLY for students with limited to zero riding experience, OR students that have not ridden regularly in several years”
What to expect
You must complete a 3-hour online eCourse from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s website before participating in our class at Javelina. The cost for the eCourse is $19.95, which you will pay by credit card when you register on the MSF site. The eCourse must be completed within a window of 30 days prior to your first day of the Basic Rider Course (BRC). Once completed, please print the certificate and bring it to the first day of class.
Any minors between the ages of (15-17) will be required to bring to class 1) a current valid State issued learners permit OR State issued drivers license AND 2) a waiver signed by their legal guardian or parent. If the waiver is NOT signed and witnessed in the presence of a Javelina representative “IT MUST BE NOTARIZED”.
If you register on-line (at retail price) for the BRC at Javelina Harley Davidson, we will reimburse your $19.95 payment to the MSF when you bring your eCourse completion certificate to us.
Please note – Texas DPS requires that you bring the eCourse completion certificate with you for the first day of class. You will not be allowed to take the class without this certificate.
When you take a Basic Rider Course at Javelina H-D Riding Academy you’ll::
- Learn to ride on a genuine Harley-Davidson® motorcycle.
- Get in-class and on-range instruction from Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) and H-D® Certified Coaches.
- Learn a strategy for riding safely and managing/reducing the risks associated with motorcycle operation.
- Learn to safely accelerate, shift, brake, and turn, along with techniques ike limited space maneuvers and surmounting obstacles.
- Earn an MSF Basic RiderCourseSM Completion Card, which will allow TX DPS to add a motorcycle endorsement to your TX driver’s license. This completion card may also provide you a discount for your motorcycle insurance depending on the insurance carrier of your choice.

What will I need to register?
You'll need a valid automobile driver's license or learner's permit, and have the ability to ride a bicycle.
Do I need any special gear?
You'll need to bring the following:
- A heavy, long-sleeve shirt or jacket
- Jeans or sturdy work pants
- Over-the-ankle, sturdy footwear
- Full-fingered gloves
- A helmet that meets DOT requirements
- Eyewear (a helmet face shield or sunglasses are acceptable)
SKILLS PRACTICE Rider course
What to expect
Designed solely for experienced riders, this eight-hour 1 or 2 day course is taught by dedicated Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) and H-D® Certified Coaches.
There is no eCourse required, but you must have a motorcycle endorsement on your license to participate.
You’ll learn advanced tips and techniques to help you own the road.
- Control at low speeds
- Risk management
- Limited-space maneuvers
- Cornering judgment
- Swerving and stopping quickly on straights and in curves
- Multiple curve maneuvers and surmounting objects
- You will use your own 2 wheel vehicle in this course. Your vehicle must have current State approved insurance and have a current State safety inspection.
When you're done, you'll not only ride with more confidence than ever, you'll earn an MSF Advanced Rider Completion Card. This completion card "MAY" qualify you for a discount on motorcycle insurance through your current carrier.

3 Wheel Basic Trike Rider Course
What to expect
When you take a 3 Wheel Basic Trike course (3WBRC) at Javelina Harley-Davidson you’ll:
- Get in-class and on-range instruction from Motorcycle safety Foundation (MSF) Certified Rider-Coaches.
- Learn how 3-wheel vehicles differ from 2-wheel motorcycles
- Learn how to safely accelerate, shift gears (if applicable), brake, turn, avoid hazards, and handle normal or unusual road conditions.
- Earn a MSF Basic 3-Wheel Basic Rider Course Completion Card which will exempt you from most of the licensing requirements for a special 3-Wheel vehicle endorsement for your Texas driver license.
- You will use your own 3-Wheel vehicle in this course, Subject to state vehicle requirements. Proof of insurance is REQUIRED.
- There is no eCourse requirement for this course.
3-Wheel Course FAQs
What will I need to register?

- Online registration is not available. You need to call the dealership at 830-755-5202 to register for the 3Wheel BRC

Licensed Waiver Rider Course
NON-EXPERIENCED Riders DO NOT QUALIFY for this Class!
This class course is only for the experienced rider who may have allowed their original motorcycle endorsement to expire or they never obtained a motorcycle license endorsement, but have extensive recent riding experience. The first riding exercise is a pre-qualification evaluation of your riding skill. If you cannot successfully ride this exercise, you will not be allow to continue in this class.
What to expect
You must complete a 3-hour online eCourse from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s website before participating in our class at Javelina. The cost for the eCourse is $19.95, which you will pay by credit card when you register at the MSF site. The eCourse must be completed within the window of 30 days prior to your first day of the Licensed Waiver Rider Course (BRCLW). Once completed, print the certificate and provide it to your coach on your scheduled class day.
In addition to the eCourse, you must pass a written exam and riding skills evaluation before class begins and at the end of the class.

- Learn a strategy for riding safely and managing/reducing the risks associated with motorcycle operation.
- Provide your own motorcycle that must have full insurance coverage, current registration and have proof of passing state vehicle inspection requirements.
- Earn an MSF Basic RiderCourseSM Completion Card, which will allow TX DPS to add a motorcycle endorsement to your TX driver’s license. This completion card may also result in a discount for your motorcycle insurance.
